Man of Steel leaked Teaser Trailer

Official Teaser Poster
I'm supposed to be looking forward for the last installment of Chris Nolan's Batman Trilogy, The Dark Knight Rises. But something bigger is going to motivate me to watch the movie the earliest that I can. This blog entry is even supposed to be about Batman but he will have to step aside even though I might be running out of time to make a blog entry that will be recapping the last two Batman movies before The Dark Knight Rises. The reason? The new Superman movie's trailer debut. Simply called Man of Steel, this new Superman movie is being produced under the guiding hands of Chris Nolan. Directed by Zack Snyder (of 300 and Watchmen fame) and starred by Henry Cavill (remember the movie Immortals?) this new Superman movie promises to bring the action that no other Superman movie has ever done before. And it's about time that they maximize the current technological advances to film making in ensuring that this new Superman movie will reinvigorate the franchise and Superman's standing as the greatest Superhero of all time. In the movie, Cavill will be joined by an All Star cast of veteran actors that would truly shape him as the rightful Superman for this generation. Joining him are Amy Adams, who will be playing Lois Lane, Russell Crowe (remember the movie Gladiator? or the  2010 Robin Hood?) as Superman's Kryptonian father Jor El, Kevin Costner (remember the 90's Robin Hood? or the Bodyguard?) as Superman's adoptive father Jonathan Kent, Diane Lane (Unfaithful) as Superman's adoptive mother Martha Kent, Laurence Fishburne (The Matrix's Morpheus) as Perry White (well he's supposed to be white in the comics), and Michael Shannon and Antje Traue as Zod and Ursa respectively.

Henry Cavill as the new Superman
I actually initially is hesitant of this movie because Superman's costume is taking a cue on the NU 52 (DC Comics Reboot) costume, but what gives, right now I just want to see a new Superman movie. Nolan and Snyder better deliver the goods this time because Nolan's Batman trilogy is coming to it's end and DC needs a new Superhero to save them from Marvel's box office onslaught with the success of their Avengers movie and other movie tie ins to the Avengers. Heck Superman might even be outnumbered next year because Marvel has already announced their new movies (Iron Man 3, Captain America: Winter Soldier, Thor: The Dark World, Ant Man, and The Guardians of the Galaxy) out next year which they are saying as a preparation to the Avengers Phase 2 movie. I am hoping that Superman would not be outgunned and perhaps would even lead the way for DC to come out with more of their movies and the eventual Justice League movie. Nolan has expressed that he is not going to helm the rumored upcoming Justice League movie but has said that Man of Steel might just be the movie that would finally lead the Justice League movie to be realized. I am hoping that indeed Man of Steel would do just that. Superman has been the butt of jokes for far too long, I pray that Man of Steel would finally bring Superman back the respect that he rightfully deserves. Man of Steel will also not only going to be about action, but Nolan has also said that they hope to bring Superman to the audience and make the general public once again remember why Superman is the greatest hero of all time.

Man of Steel?

This blog entry won't be complete without an Action Figure feature. So here I am with the closest figure that I could get that would represent the new Man of Steel movie while I wait for the official Movie Merchandise. This figure here is actually from the much maligned Superman Return's movie which was starred by Brandon Routh. What made me bought this figure is that it has the Man of Steel's costume colors. The new movie does not have the blue hues of Superman, but instead it has a grayish blue hue to it. This figure caught my attention because of it's close resemblance to Man of Steel, well except for the red trunks. Man of Steel is going to be sporting the Red trunkless Superman of the New 52 universe which I don't really like. I'm still a huge fan of the classic Superman costume with the red trunks on. But there's a reason why they went with this costume. And some photos would show that Jor El will be wearing a similar costume in Krypton. So this costume comes from Krypton, not sewed by Ma Kent. This figure sports a pissed off Superman head sculpt and does not hold any close resemblance to Brandon Routh. If any, this figure would rightfully represent Henry Cavill's Man of Steel because I believe his version will be more tougher and angrier than Routh's. And as evidenced by his movie Immortals, Cavill can very much play a mean Superman that is ready to kick some asses. (more photos below as well as the movie's costume).

(UPDATE) Saw this on you tube, a combined video of the SDCC Video Trailer and the Official Video Trailer released in cinemas.

Below is a description of the Man of Steel trailer written by Luis & Ivan Jaime...
(Taken from www.supermanhomepage.com)

It opens with a wheat field on a farm.
We then see a toy wagon flipped over in the grass.
A butterfly on the chain of a swing, it flutters its wings.
Cut to a shot of a man, walking alone on a snow-covered road. We see him from the back, walking towards the hills.
We see a young boy, running through a field of grass from the farm we saw earlier. He wears a red cape, tucked into the back of his white T-shirt.

Cut to a scene with a bearded Clark Kent sitting on the steps of a house on a cloudy day. A dog runs up to him, and he scratches the back of its head.

We are then back at the farm. We see the boy with the cape, we don't see his head. What we see is his torso, with his two fists firmly planted on his waist, in a signature pose that we are ALL very familiar with.
In the background, we hear what sounds like a combination of Jor-El and Johnathan Kent: "What if a child dreams of becoming something other than what society had intended? What if a child aspired to something greater?"
The scene changes to Clark being brought to a barn. A dusty sheet is pulled to reveal an intergalactic vessel that had been hidden there for years.
Clark holds a metal "S" shield, in the new design from the movie, in his hand.
Next we go to a completely different setting. We are no longer in a farm, but in a city.
We hear a woman's voice in the background: "My son was in the bus." It cuts to a teenage Clark, saving children from a school bus that had fallen off a bridge and crashed in the water. Clark is swimming to the bus, and he rips the door off. "He saw what Clark did."
Jonathan Kent's voice is then heard saying: "People are afraid of what they don't understand."
Jor-El is now seen standing before Clark. "It's not from this world Clark." Jor-El pulls opens his cloak to reveal the Superman suit's "S" Shield. "Take you're freedom. It's my conscience. Where I come from."
We now see Superman in his suit, long red cape flapping in the wind behind him. The first shot of him in the suit is from a distance, the second shows him walking across a snowy plain.
We hear Jonathan Kent's voice: "You have to decide what kind of man you want to grow up to be Clark. Whoever that man is, he's going to change the world."
When then see a series of brief glimpses:
We see a glimpse of Superman flying.
A glimpse of him catching someone falling off a building.
A quick glimpse of Amy Adams as Lois Lane.
A glimpse of Superman being led down a hallway by police, with his hands behind his back, while in his Superman suit.
We catch a glimpse of Clark inside an elevator. The doors are closing, and right before we can no longer see his face, he removes his glasses from his face.
He hear Clark's voice: "My father believed, if the world found out who I really was, they'd reject me. He was convinced that the world wasn't ready." We see Lois approaching Superman as if they are about to kiss. "What do you think?"
There's a glimpse of a shirtless Clark, with his whole body on fire.
And finally, we see Superman being thrown into a giant bank vault. The same vault from his first promotional image. It looks like he's been thrown.
It finishes with a giant "S" shield, rotating on an axis, until you see the new "S" shield in all its glory. Followed by: "SUMMER 2013".

Bootleg Avengers and Hasbro Mighty Battlers Avengers

Bootleg Avengers Assemble

I actually don't know why I'm blogging about these Knock Offs. But I bought them out of my amusement of finding these amazingly bootlegged 6 inch Avengers Movie toys. Lately I've come across a lot of bootlegged Marvel toys that uses the molds of the original toys by Hasbro and Toybiz. The best of them all are these Movie Avengers set. This Movie Avengers set are selling like hotcakes here in the Philippines because of the movie's massive success. A lot of kids who can't afford to buy the original ones (which by the way are hard to find) settled for this set. I'm gonna do a quick review on these bootlegs to give you an idea how awesome (or not) these are.

Bootleg Thor

Thor

(L-R) Hasbro Mighty Battlers Movie Thor and Bootleg Thor

I think this Bootleg Thor is based from the Hasbro 8 inch Thor. It's like a miniature version of that Thor because this figure stands at approximately 6 inch. But this figure has added articulation. This figure's articulation consists of a Ball jointed neck, swivel shoulders, hinged elbows, swivel hips, and hinged knees. It has a removable hammer that is of rubbery plastic substance. The body's paint apps are quite good but the face is so so. It doesn't actually capture Chris Hemsworth face. The cape is removable. It's chest also has a Red colored led light that lights up when you press a button in it's back. I don't get it why bootleg toys have these light up gimmicks on the figure's chest. It seems to be a staple for these types of toys. In the photo, I used the Hasbro Mighty Battlers Thor for scale comparison. (Grade 7/10)

Bootleg Hawkeye

Hawkeye

(L-R) Toybiz ML Hawkeye and Bootleg Hawkeye

Admittedly, I bought this set because I had plans of using the Head of this Hawkeye figure for a custom Movie Hawkeye. I love the head sculpt of this figure because it closely captures Jeremy Renner's face. Though some are saying that it has Agent Phil Coulson's face (which I don't really agree). Someone actually has already done a custom Agent Phil Coulson figure using this head. Check it out here:

http://www.marvelousnews.com/index.php?catid=73&itemid=15129

I don't know where they got this figure's mold but it uses a repainted Thor's body. The paint apps are good enough to try to hide Thor's body. The arms looks awkward as it is fixed with an arrow shooting pose. It shares the same articulation with the Bootleg Thor but minus the elbow articulation. It also comes with a bow and arrow accessory as well as a removable arrow pack that is attached on it's back. Again it also has a light up gimmick on it's chest. In the Photo, I used the Toybiz Marvel Legends Series 7 Hawkeye for Scale Comparison. (Grade 8/10)

Bootleg Captain America

Captain America

ML Series 8 Cap and Bootleg Cap

Well this Bootleg Cap is eye popping. It uses the Toybiz Marvel Legends Series 8 Ultimate Captain America mold. In the photo, I had it stood side by side with the original Captain America figure where it was based from. The bootleg one looks a bit smaller. And it's shoulder is kinda off. The mold though is totally spot on. But it only features limited articulation. It only has a ball jointed neck, swivel shoulders, hinged elbows, swivel hips, and hinged knees. Again it has a light up gimmick on it's chest. The paint apps are quite good. The shield is also decent enough. What I don't understand is that why they didn't make use of the Movie Cap version for this bootleg Captain America. Of course, they could not get a hold of the Avengers Movie version, but at least they could have opted for the Hasbro 8 inch Roto Cap. I guess they opted for the mold of the best Captain America figure ever released. Well I shouldn't complain because the body will very much come in handy for my custom unmasked Captain America (See Photo Below) (Grade 9/10).

(L-R) Mighty Battlers Avengers Movie Captain America and Bootleg Captain America

Bootleg Black Widow

Black Widow
(L-R) Bootleg Black Widow and ML Series 8 Black Widow

This Bootleg Black Widow feels like a cardboard cutout. I think the bootleggers just used a random Avengers Movie Black Widow photo as the source and did an original body sculpt. This figure is an epic fail for me because they weren't able to sculpt Black Widow's "assets" properly. The chests are not well endowed enough. Scarlett Johansson should sue these bootleggers for the omission that they did. But they could get a good alibi because the figure doesn't look like Scarlett. This figure only sports 3 articulations. A swivel neck and swivel shoulders. The paint apps looks decent. The figure holds a non removable gun on her right hand. The figure is composed of rubbery plastic that are quite bendable. Unfortunately, this figure doesn't have a led light gimmick on it's chest. This one is a fail. In the Photo, I used the Toybiz Marvel Legends Series 8 Black Widow for Scale Comparison (Grade 2/10)

Bootleg Incredible Hulk

Incredible Hulk

Hasbro 8 inch Avengers Movie Roto Hulk and Bootleg Hulk

Funny, Hulk is supposed to be the biggest of all the Avengers but the Bootleggers got lazy and opted to use the puny 4 inch Marvel Universe Hulk mold for this set's Hulk figure. This is a huge insult to the green skinned behemoth. I've seen lots of bootleg Hulks before, I'm wondering why they didn't opt to rehash those bootlegs from the Ang Lee Hulk Movie. This figure's paint apps is hideous. The Bootleggers forgot to paint Hulk's pants, giving it a funny looking purple underpants. The figure is articulated with a swivel neck, swivel shoulders, hinged elbows, swivel hips, and hinged knees. It also has that led light gimmick on it's chest. In the Photo, I used the 8 inch Hasbro Avengers Movie Hulk Rotocast for Scale Comparison(Grade 3/10)

Bootleg Iron Man

Iron Man

Hasbro Iron Man 2 Mark 6 and Bootleg Iron Man Mark 3

The bootleg Iron Man is an exact replica of the Hasbro Iron Man 1 Mark 3 Movie figure. It utilizes it's mold and almost had it done perfectly except for the lack of articulation. The figure is articulated with a ball jointed neck, swivel shoulders, hinged elbows, swivel hips (that moves left to right, not up and down), hinged knees, and hinged ankles. Among the bootlegs, this figure has the most number of articulation. The paint apps are good enough because majority of the figure is composed of red colored plastics. It also has a light up feature on it's chest which actually makes sense  because Iron Man does have a power core that lights up on his chest. I could have given this figure a perfect score but it's hip articulation is quite annoying because it limits the posseability of the figure. I know that the original figure possesses ball jointed hips but the Bootleggers could have at least put swivel hips instead like the Bootleg Captain America figure. The original ML Captain America also possesses ball jointed hips. So I see no reason why they couldn't do the same for Iron Man (Grade 9/10)

Bootleg Nick Fury
Nick Fury

Hasbro ML Two Pack Nick Fury and Bootleg Nick Fury

This Bootleg Nick Fury figure is Black Widow all over again. It shares the same articulation with Black Widow, shares the same plastic material, and most probably shared the same production and design process. The paint apps are passable. This figure is lazily done. The head sculpt though is nowhere near Samuel Jackson's face but can actually be passable if forced upon. I used the Head to customize an Ultimate Nick Fury (See photo below). The body can be used as Hasbro Iron Man 2 Mark 4 Tony Stark's body (See photo below).  Not much can be said for this figure. The only good thing that can be said for this figure is that the head is easily removable. (Grade 2/10)

The Avengers

These bootleg figures are actually good enough to be displayed alongside the unfinished Hasbro Mighty Battlers Avengers. I actually treated the Mighty Battlers as my alternative 6 inch Avengers Movie action figure collection. But Hasbro disappointed me by not producing Hawkeye, Black Widow, and  Nick Fury. The Mighty Battlers are decent toys that would mostly appeal to kids because of it's action features. Squeeze Captain America's legs and he'll simulate throwing a shield as the shield attached to his hands spins. Squeeze Thor's legs and he simulates a spinning hammer attack. Squeeze Hulks legs and the Hulk smashes. Squeeze Iron Man's legs and he simulates a repulsor blast. I didn't buy both Hulk and Iron Man because I opted for the Roto Hulk for scale purposes. While for the Iron Man figure, I'm using my Hasbro Mark 4 Iron Man. But since I've found these decent bootlegs, they will be joining the Mighty Battlers Avengers in my display and as my son's playthings.
