C.O.P.S.

C.O.P.S. (Top Left-Right) Inferno, Sundown, Heavyweight, Bowser, and A.P.E.S.
(Bottom L-R) Nightstick, Airwave, Highway, Long Arm, Roadblock, Taser, Bullseye, Checkpoint, and Sgt. Mace

C.R.O.O.K.S. (Top L-R) Big Boss, and Dr. Badvibes
(Bottom L-R) Hyena, Koo Koo, Rock Crusher, Nightmare, Bullit, and Berzerko

Back in the 80's, I was a huge fan of several animated series based on toys. One of those animated series was C.O.P.S. I enjoyed the series so much because it follows the same formula that G.I. Joe has but instead of the U.S. Army, they came from the police department. The acronym of C.O.P.S. stands for Central Organization of Police Specialists. The police force in this animated series are augmented cyborgs or weapons specialists that were banded together by Bulletproof (the C.O.P.S leader) to fight crime. Though the animated series was short lived, the Action Figures was one of the best part that came out of this show. They are like bigger versions of the G.I. Joe action figure line, with each articulation being an exact replica of the Joes. It's no surprise though because Hasbro (the toy company who owns G.I. Joe) were also the ones who made this toyline. They were actually the first 6 inch action figures that I owned. I used to own Long Arm, Bowser, and Bullit when I was younger. But unfortunately, I wasn't able to preserve them. Last year I found an almost complete set in an online toy shop and asked my brother if he is interested in acquiring the set. Being a nostalgia junkie like me, he eventually purchased the set.  We were delighted to find out that Long Arm, Bowser, and Bullit were part of the set. Sadly though Bulletproof isn't. The set lacks the C.O.P.S. figures- Bulletproof, Hardtop, Barricade, and Powderkeg. The C.R.O.O.K.S. figures- Turbo TuTone, Louie the Plumber, and Buttons McBoomBoom. The set also lacks the corresponding accessories of the figures. But we didn't mind it because we were after the figures and we just decided to look for gun accessories replacements for them to use.

DCUC Flash, C.O.P.S. Roadblock, and ML Professor X
Nowadays as an Adult Toy Collector, my mainline usually are the 6 inch Action Figures. I have a special preference for the 6 inchers because for me the size are perfect for photos and displays. I'm also currently building the DC Universe (through DC Direct and DC Universe Classics) and the Marvel Universe (through Marvel Legends and Marvel Select). So I wondered how these guys would fit in with my mainline. I took comparison shots (see photo above) of DCUC, C.O.P.S. and ML standing together and was surprise to see that the C.O.P.S. are actually a bit smaller than the both aforementioned lines. I think though that they would fit well with Mattel's Movie Masters lines. The figure's articulation are just the same as the G.I. Joes. It features articulation on the Neck (Ball Joint), Shoulder (Ball-Hinged), Elbow (Hinged), Biceps (Swivel), Wrist (Swivel), Waist (Rubber Cord), Hips (Ball Jointed), and Knee (Hinged). The sculpts on these figures also looks good as it closely resembles the animated series. The paint job is also sharp. We're actually happy to acquire these guys because they can complement well with our other 6 inch collections. But the best of all, the nostalgic factor of owning these toys is the best part of acquiring this set. I'll leave you with more photos below (unfortunately I wasn't able to take solo shots because these figures are already in my brother's cabinet).

  2. Thanks! It would have been much cooler if the accessories are still there. I still remember they have the exploding cap gun gimmick in their guns.

  3. COPS was an amazing toy line that deserved more love. If Hasbro wasn't so ADD about toylines and didn't drop COPS for Air Raiders, we'd have seen more of em.
I have been trying to complete my collection and I'm pretty close as of this week. The Nostalgia factor is amazing with these guys because as a kid I only had a handful. Now 26+ years later, I have almost the whole collection.
