Convergence concludes.... and this is how I feel....

Disclaimer: I've yet to read the entire series and just based my knowledge on the reviews and from Wikipedia. So here goes!

DC ARE YOU SERIOUSLY KIDDING ME!?!?

When DC rolled out Convergence and Marvel rolled out their Secret Wars events, I picked Secret Wars as the better mega event. Though it is in a way a copy of DC's the be all and end all of all Multiverse shattering event, the Crisis on Infinite Earths. Marvel made a better grip of consolidating their cinematic universe's popularity with their comic book properties. It's a smart move of trying to get the mainstream audience to read their comic books (though I really loathe their plans of alienating X-Men and Fantastic Four fans due to their dispute with Fox). DC's convergence was confusing. The motives were not clear, the message were cryptic. Will the New 52 live on? That seemed to be the prevalent thought of DC fans. But the Free Comic Book Day offering was titled Divergence. If Convergence made all of the realities converge, how come we are fast forwarded to a sneak peek comic book that said to Diverge? And then Dan Didio terms the new DC Universe as DcYou. Something seems to be cooking here at DC.

Convergence #8 drops the bomb, and the DC Universe will never be the same again?

Honestly I have mixed emotions about this. For one I should be happy to know that the Pre New 52 Superman (or I should call him SuperDad now after the events of the two issue Superman Convergence). But really, coming in my expectations for Convergence after DC announced that they will revisit the old DC Universes was that the Pre New 52 Universe would be given a proper closure. I came in with that expectation and to know that DC is going to undo Crisis on Infinite Earths, feels like Convergence just blew right in my face. I do admit DcYou is a nice concept. It makes us readers in complete control as to what universe we want to support. It allows us to be choosy. But if DC is trying to call back all those lost fans with this DcYou concept, how sooner are we going to see the Pre-Crisis/Post Crisis world? Will they still have a regular place in the present monthly DC comic book releases? Or will they be a per project basis wherein a creative group would be utilizing a certain Universe thru limited series or one off graphic novels?

As we wait for what the future of DcYou holds, one thing is for sure, whenever SuperDad stories would be released in the near future, DC can take my money. I'm still not fond of this New 52 Superman who I believe is still the Superman that DC would be utilizing in its monthly stories. DC however can fully complete their plan of bringing back all the fans together by simply assigning one title to a specific universe.

Here's a sampling of my suggestion:

Superman titles will be bannered by the New 52 Superman
Adventures of Superman will be bannered by the Pre-New 52 Superman
Action Comics will be bannered by the Pre-Crisis Superman

Well you get my point.

  1. You can say the exact same things about Secret Wars. At least Convergence is more fun to read and is actually about heroes saving the day. Secret Wars is two issues in and I've rolled my eyes over Hickman's pretentious dialogue and love for making things sound more deep than it actually is that I've grown dizzy. I'll just come back when Secret Wars ends but I'm sure it will be a whole lot of nothing.

    1. Hi George! Thanks for the comments. Honestly I've stopped reading recent comic book lately as I concentrating on reading the back issues because I really hate the direction that both companies are going. I stopped reading Marvel ever since they introduced Nick Fury Jr. Which is a stupid idea just so they could connect their cinematic universe with the comic books. For DC I stopped since Flashpoint. Will consider buying the Convergence trade though. "Consider" being the operative word. Lol! Will just wait and see how Secret Wars ends.
